Only 39 women have ever served as governor of a state in U.S. history -- one of them, the Honorable Jennifer Granholm, was governor of my home state of Michigan. Currently only SIX states have a woman serving as governor. But that could change dramatically in 2018, according to the Center for American Women in Politics. At least 79 women have either already thrown their hat in the ring or are seriously considering a gubenatorial run.
